Seniors on the Web?

I’m in Dallas for a couple of business meetings and am currently having a late breakfast in a local restaurant.  The table next to me has three men that I would guess to be in their late 60’s to mid 70’s.  They are going on-and-on about the new technological advances taking place online.  Blogs, social media like MySpace, and the rapid growth of Google are all topics of interest.  Right now one of the gentlemen is explaining the differences between Search Engine Optimization and Search Engine Marketing to the other two – and he’s doing a great job!  Supposedly the Dora the Explorer website has offended one gentlemen’s granddaughter and she has now moved onto the new Barbie site.  YouTube video’s were discussed early and as a follow-up a link to a video one gentleman found funny will be forwarded to the group.  No iPhone’s, but Blackberry’s are spread out on the table and regularly checked for new email.  These guys aren’t in any rush, so I assume they are semi-retired.

(editors note: I’m eating alone and the tables are very close which makes it impossible not to eavesdrop)

On another note, if this group represents seniors at large, Hillary doesn’t have a chance, Obama is too green, and they prefer a candidate that has worn a uniform.

Point of this blog?  First, you better take the web seriously, even if your customer is 65 and older.  Second, John McCain may do well with the senior population.
